The makers of the highly-anticipated prequel, Kantara: Chapter 1, recognized director Rishab Shetty, over the weekend on his birthday with a massive release. Hombale Films, the production company responsible for the cinematic phenomenon announced that this mythic saga would release in theaters globally on October 2, 2025, exactly on Gandhi Jayanti.
On their X (formerly Twitter) timeline, Hombale Films wrote, “Where legends are created and the call of the wild is heard… Kantara – A prequel to the masterpiece that shook millions. Wishing the pioneer of the legend @shetty_rishab a day of divine and glorious celebration. The highly anticipated prequel to the divine cinematic phenomenon… #KantaraChapter1 roars into theatres globally, on October 2, 2025.”
Kantara: Chapter 1 is said to be a spiritual and action-laden drama set during the reign of the Kadamba dynasty of Banavasi. It has been written and directed by Rishab Shetty, who will presumably come back in a different avatar as a Naga Sadhu with superhuman abilities. The film also features a notable performance from Jayaram.
